miniAtmegatron / MiniAtmegatron PCB
Last post by luccasc - September 24, 2018, 05:04:42 PM

Hello Paul,

All right ?
I would like to ask questions if it were possible.
First question is: Is it allowed to make PCBs from your schematic? I ask this because it is impossible for us Brazilians to import anything, we are going through economic recession and import anything is costing us a very high price. If you are allowed to make PCBs, I can sell the PCBs and credit you with links to your site and your stuff, once this is allowed, I will no doubt be responsible for anyone who purchases the PCB here in Brazil.

Second question, how do I add a standard midi DIN connector, to use the miniatmegatron I attached a schematic of a connection using a 6N137 optocoupler, in which Arduino pin should I connect the RX pin of the DIN connector? On the Arduino RX pin or the D1 or D0 pin? Is there any code change if I do not want to use the USB to midi and leave the usb port only for programming and power supply ?

Thanks for this project... thanks for time and support.

Best Regards From Brazil.

miniAtmegatron / i built one - it actually work...
Last post by ploom2 - August 04, 2018, 12:59:46 AM
i finally got round to building my mini atmegatron and it actually works.
a bit slow as i'm a complete idiot ...

things i learnt ....
resistors dont matter which way they go round , supposed to be better if they are all 'similar' or something.
using iphone camera / ios12 magnifying thing really helps.
using the image of the fried one from this forum actually helped , an image of the components in place , close up gave me a lot of help and a bit of confidence on my progress. (can i request a nice , clear photo of a completed board top/bottom ??)

capacitors (the blue ones with funny legs , and the other brown ones)  can go in any way .. just put them in the right holes.

if you already have the case too , use the top of it to help ensure all the knobs, buttons , lights are in the right place while you are soldering things together. it'll keep them aligned and helped me out a lot (especially the small buttons and LED/light pipes)

the volume definitely touches on the usb socket on mine , i cut away what i could and put a bit of plastic in between.

LED's were tricky , i think i need to check its all working as i'm not sure i get all the expected colours on the Function led.

its making noises and changing sequences etc , all the dials do something , the button tweaks something , though i'm not entirely sure what the expected behaviour is , so more playing tomorrow. (some kind of guide on how it should perform a diagnostic might be great for an idiot like me , just a quick run through of the colours expected , sound changes , .. nothing lengthy). the youtube vids from various people look useful .

my soldering skills are not terrible and improved as i progressed ..
my eyesight is not good enough for this stuff.

overall , i learnt lots , had 'fun' i guess , very pleased it worked 1st time (even though i didn't check for shorts though i kept it clean as i went through it)

tomorrow :
check the led's are doing what they should.
hook up arduino to get some unique firmware on it , even if its just different sequences and defaults.
put the case together properly , i have 2 x screws left over.
add orangepaint to the top of each button and encoder so they stand out from the case.
add something to give each LED more sheilding so that then one flashes it doesnt impact the colour of the other too much. (piece of cardboard or something)
plug in a 9v adapter to see it that works.
find out what the note button does.

happy , my next project is repairing the encoders on my octatrack , then build my erebus diy .
if i can do this , I'm quite sure anyone can .

Hi paul,

please, can you tell me how high the current consumption (mA) of the Atmegatron/Odytron is? Thanks.

Everything else / Anyone else experienced this?
Last post by spadekevin - July 24, 2018, 09:53:34 AM
Hello,

Yesterday I arrived home from work and drove up to my garage but no parking sensors despite the fact I almost touched it with the bumper. I reversed and tried the rear sensor with the same, no beeps despite nearly touching the garage door.

I locked the car, went in for 10 minutes then went back out to see what could be the problem and hay presto, no issues all working again both front and rear.

The only thing I did on the way home was change from eco to sport mode and back again and I was wondering if that caused a software bug to show up.

Anyone else experienced this? I will try it again later to see if I can replicate the issue.

Please help.

I didn't find the right solution from the internet.

Everything else / Am I missing something simple...
Last post by spadekevin - July 24, 2018, 09:50:13 AM
Hello,

I've been having an issue with the installation of tvpaint on my Mac (which uses the latest verson of High Sierra). From the disc I install the software and remove the dongle as instructed for the driver installation. After I restart the computer and put the dongle back in, it isn't recognised at all despite the green light coming on. I try to open the software but a dialogue box tells me there is no dongle in the USB port. Am I missing something simple?

Please help.

Software technical support / problem is the computer and it...
Last post by spadekevin - July 24, 2018, 09:49:32 AM
Hello,

We always try to keep the interface compatible with the most recent version of our software, as long as the computer technology allow us to do it. This means V8 and coming V9 are supposed to manage this interface,

BUT the problem is the computer and its recent motherboards usb chips. Althought motherboards manufacturers say "no problem with backward compatibility", there is sometimes usb compatibility problems with this interface and the recent motherboards. And we can not do anything to fix that. This is a hardware problem.
So our answer is: as long as you keep the same computer, there should be no problem. When you will change computer, this will be like lottery.

Please help.

Last post by spadekevin - July 24, 2018, 09:48:14 AM
Hello,

I am a newbie running Linux Mint 15 Olivia Cinnamon Edition 64-bit. The Software Manager and Update Manager just stopped working. When I try to start the Software Manager, it asks for my password but then nothing happens. The Update Manager gives me a message which says "Could not refresh the list of packages." Can anyone help?

Please help.

I didn't find the right solution from the internet.

OK - Great. I'll listen to it in my studio this evening ... cool that you always technically explain your stuff ;)

I now use various delays in my setup too (uploading a picture of my setup would probably not a bad idea :) - even composing a new song :o) ... One of the delay is analogue - others are emulating the analog sound. Thus I have a delay behind each of atmegatron and odytron ... but these are used wisely;)
